A New Study Reveals Tandoors Heavily Adding to Our Pollution Woes
As the odd and even vehicle number experiment ends (for now atleast!), a study by IIT Kanpur has identified coal-fired tandoors in restaurants and hotels as one of the contributors of particulate matter.
According to the report there are approximately 9,000 hotels/restaurants in town that use coal (mostly in tandoors) that largely add to the city’s pollution woes!
It further says a complete ban on MSW burning can bring emissions from this source to zero and possibly see an improvement of 5-10% in air quality.
It’ll definitely be a wise move for restaurants to shift to electric or gas-based appliances - let’s do our bit to make Delhi pollution free!
