From yum desi street food to the love of our life - maggie, Delhi University is the mecca for all things delicious. The food joints around the North and South campuses have somewhat earned celebrity status and loyal fans following from the forever hungry DU peeps. With each new generation of college students, frequenting these now-permanent haunts has become a tradition of sorts and redefines college life for all the new freshers. So DU peeps, get ready to reminisce those good ole days ‘cause here are nine eateries that we foodies have long since considered our second home. Let’s dive in! 

1. Chache Di Hatti

What can be said about this iconic chole bhature place that hasn’t already been said? Known for serving the BEST Chole Bhature in North Campus, this joint opens around 9 AM  and is immediately swarmed by students wanting to get their daily fix before their morning classes. A celebrity among other chole bhature stalls in the area, Chache Di Hatti defo deserves all the limelight it gets, solely because it dishes out those soft and tangy Chole Bhature that are known to sell out in the blink of an eye! So, the next time you’re in the area, don’t forget to check it out - preferably before Noon!

2. Bhagwat Banta

Outside Kirori Mal College, you’ll find Bhagwant Bhaiya sitting with his usual cart full of glass bottles, masalas and a lemon concoction, that will make you salivate on sight. Been around the block since 1995, Bhawant Banta knows precisely how to fulfil all your Banta craving during those super hot and sunny days, with his extraordinarily masaledar and fizzy Bantas that hit hard. We’re already drooling ‘cause of how refreshing this sounds, y’all. You’ll also find that Bhagwat Bhaiya likes to mix up sometimes and presents us with his heavenly Orange Banta during those scorching summer months. So, grab your share quickly ‘cause trust us when we say that nothing can quench your thirst like these delish Bantas!

3. Sudama Tea Stall

Sudama Tea Stall has been in the business for decades now (ever since the 1980s) and is super popular for its Masala Chai. The minute you land anywhere near this stall, you’ll bear witness to dozens of students sprawled around the dainty shop, sipping Sudama Ji’s piping cups of tea, while laughing and chit-chatting about everything under the sun with their friends’ gang. Go ahead and drag your chiller gang here and sip away on the Masala Chai and make memories for a lifetime.

4. Chowringhee

Chowringhee is a small shop, tucked away in Satya Niketan and has been deemed as the fav DU adda since its inception. Lauded for its finger-licking Kathi rolls that provide the perfect blend of juicy and crunchy at super affordable prices, Chowringhee knows how to serve up a dish to perfection. Over the years, they have added to their menu which now serves an amalgamation of scrumptious Indian as well as Chinese cuisine. You can’t afford to miss out on their Gravy Chicken Momos, Afghani Malai Chaap and Chicken Kathi Roll if you’re looking to satisfy the ravenous foodie in you. So, when do you plan to drop by?

5. Tom Uncle’s Maggi Point

This one is considered to be one of the oldest and most popular stalls in the North campus, situated right outside Ramjas College. People come from all over town, specifically to taste the much-famed Maggie varieties offered by Tom Uncle. And why shouldn’t they? With over 50+ varieties of Maggie, Tom Uncle’s Maggie Point acts as the only saving grace for all those broke students whose daily meal consists of at least one plate of this deliciousness. 6. JP Tea Stall

Over the years, the JP Tea Stall has been such an essential fixture in the campus area, that it would now be hard to imagine campus life without this crowd-puller. The Masala Coke that the stall offers has been its show stopper for decades now, and none of us can get over how addictive J.P’s Aloo Patties and Chai can be - making it the perfect combo to munch on during rainy days. So, next time you drop by here, don’t forget to stake your claim on those mouth-watering delicacies!

7. Mohan Lal Bhelpuri

Bhelpuri makes for the perfect snack, being light on the stomach and full of complimentary flavours, and no one does it better than Mohan Lala Bhaiya, who sits outside Hindu College. He packs his Bhelpuri with yummy stuffed rice, tangy and sweet chutney, coriander, peanuts and crispy papdi with a dash of nimbu and a sprinkling of bhujia on top to finish off this masterpiece, taking you on an epic gastronomical journey. We can see the droll from here, folks! Nothing else left to say as the dish literary speaks for itself - go conquer and devour! *wink*

8. Pandit Ji Paranthe Hut

Not many can pass up a plate full of buttery paranthas, especially not the stuffed delights that Pandit Ji serves. Their overstuffed, rich-in-taste paranthas taste just like home, which proves why you won’t ever find this place deserted. With the ability to simply draw you in with its aroma, Pandit Ji’s famous Paneer Egg And Onion Parantha, Aloo Pyaaz Parantha and Mixed Parantha are simply too irresistible to put in words. So, head over quickly to stuff your face with this toothsome treat!

9. Shyam Chaat Bhandar

Heaps of tangy and flavourful chaat goodness that will just melt in your mouth - need we say more? Ask any DU Students, and they’ll share the same sentiments - Shyam Chaat Bhandar is the ultimate pit stop to end all your chatpata chat cravings. This diamond in the rough serves a variety of Chaats, Dahi Bhalla and Pani Puri that will take your taste buds on a heavenly foodgasmic ride. Also, for those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to taste the famous Chache Di Hatti’s Chole Bhature before they sold out, Shyam Chaat Bhandar’s version comes at a close second on the appreciation scale, so fuel up on some, right here!
