Hello, dear Delhiites! For the past two weeks, our beautiful city is finally unlocking slowly but surely and this is good news. But one must know that the danger of this pandemic is not yet over and so, it's our responsibility that we continue following all the important COVID-19 related norms. Hence, we are here with a list of 8 things you must keep in mind before you step out into the city now that it's opening again. Let's dive into the list without any further delay!
1. Continue To Maintain Social Distancing

This is one of the most important things to keep in mind while stepping out. A lot of times, we unknowingly, step close to people and don't even realise it. However, in today's world, this has become our responsibility to ensure that we maintain a proper distance to not just ensure our safety but also of our family. It is important, now more than ever, that we keep maintaining a safe distance from other people after the devastating wave that crippled the country not long ago!
2. Keep Your Mask On If You’re In A Public Place

A lot of people wear masks but it’s either on the chin, the nose is not covered or it barely fits the face. One must not just wear a mask for its sake but also wear it properly so that there is no chance of any transmission. People should wear a double mask to ensure that there is absolutely no transmission of the virus and to break the chain wherever possible.
3. Sanitise Your Hands Before You Touch Your Face

It's not a hidden fact that regularly sanitising your hands can be pretty tedious but there is just no shortcut method. You must sanitise them after touching anything or before you touch your face. This is to ensure that even if you have come in contact with the virus, you will get rid of it before you can contract it. Plus, it's also a good hygiene habit to keep your hands clean before you eat or touch your face. Because, your safety is in your hands, quite literally!
4. Avoid Crowded Areas As Much As You Can

You can step out if you want to because it's your choice at the end of the day. But with this out of the way, it’s also important to mention that it is your responsibility that you don’t step into crowded places. We often hear the news of insanely crowded marketplaces or malls with people barely maintaining social distancing rules, which is just heartbreaking. If you don't follow the safety norms and don't maintain a proper distance, then how will we break the chain and overcome this situation?
5. Avoid Stepping Out Of The House Even If You Feel A Little Unwell

People make the mistake of stepping out of their homes, even if they feel a little unwell. Yes, we agree that it may not be anything but it is also true that it’s our responsibility because we're putting other people at unwanted risk. If you feel even a little sick, we're not saying that you are down with the virus but you must stay at home because the truth is that no one is sure until the reports come negative. And even if it's just the normal flu, it does not make sense that you step out (if you can avoid it). Monitor your symptoms for a few days and consult your doctor over a call, and when they give you a go-ahead, only then step out.
6. Use Elbows And Knuckles Wherever Possible

No matter how hard we try, it’s just not possible to avoid touching certain surfaces such as railings, doors or even elevator buttons. But isn’t it true that where there’s a will there is a way? Yep, you can avoid touching these high-risk surfaces from your fingertips and instead use your elbows and knuckles for the same. Not the most convenient way, but you’ve gotta do what you can, right?!
7. Get Yourself Vaccinated

Okay, there are just not enough reasons why you HAVE to get vaccinated. Yes, it can be difficult to obtain a slot due to the heavy traffic on the website, but it's not impossible. And you need to keep trying! So, when you do get a slot, you should ensure that you get the vaccination because we need everything at our disposal to avoid contracting the virus and make sure that no one falls sick because of us. Don't wait, vaccinate!
8. The Pandemic Is Not Over

We don't know who needs to hear this, but the pandemic is NOT OVER. We know this is general knowledge, but it seems that people keep forgetting about it because they keep on flouting all the necessary COVID-19 norms by avoiding masks or just adopt a careless attitude. Even though markets, restaurants, gyms and other commercial places are slowly opening back again, it does not mean that the danger of this unseen enemy is over and that we adopt a lax attitude. So, please don't let your guard down and follow all the important norms, not just for your safety but for your family as well!
These are just a few things to keep in mind and yes, the pandemic may not yet be over but it doesn't mean that you fall prey to panic. So, keep following the important norms 'cause they've been made for a reason. Till then stay safe!
