Bookmark

The internet is a treasure trove when it comes to looking up recipes and we have struck gold many times. But it doesn’t mean success every single time! There are certain dishes with several variations out there that look super easy to prepare, but the final results often end up tasting different than what we expect. In simple terms, they’re not bad but don’t they definitely don’t taste like the ones we’re fond of. And we’ve made a list of 7 such dishes that look super easy to make but we can never seem to get it right, so, you guys know that you’re not getting wrong all alone! Let’s dive in, shall we?!

1. Chowmein

Chowmein is one dish that can be made with a number of variations, and truth be told we love both the chinjabi and authentic style of preparation. However, for some reason no matter what recipe we follow, a few of us end up with results that don't taste like the ones served at our fave Southeast Asian eatery. One of the most common problems that you may encounter is overcooked noodles, which is honestly quite a menace to get right. We know it's all about getting the balance right but no one told us that balancing is going to be so difficult!

2. Gol Gappe

This is one of the most popular street food dishes that we Indians love to gobble up. You can call it panipuri, golgappa, puchka and many more local names, but the main essence of this dish is the same. However, making this at home is no less than an ambitious mission because a lot of us, no matter what recipe we follow on YouTube we never seem to get the dish right. Either the puri ends up being too soft or the water spiciness is not like what we find outside - it's just not the same.

Most of the Chinese restaurants will have Manchow Soup on their menu. And there are countless recipes on the internet that teach you how to make a restaurant-style soup at home, but there always seems to be something lacking. By now we are almost sure that there must be a secret ingredient that all restaurants know about and we don't. This doesn't mean we don't like the soup we make at home, it's just not the same as the one served at our favourite Chinese eatery.

4. Roasted Chicken

Roasted Chicken has a prep time which is the bare minimum and uses just a few ingredients for marination. However, this simplistic looking dish is anything but easy. You will know what we're talking about if you have attempted this dish before. The main reason why one could easily mess up this dish is because of the cooking sciences. If you don't get the temperature and the roasting time correct you will either end up with undercooked meat or a dry overcooked dish.

Like most of the recipes in the list, there are countless bloggers and chefs who’ve given their version of lip-smacking matar kulche. Some have even gone ahead and claimed that their recipe will get that nukkad wala taste that we crave. But, if you’re someone who has had street-side kulche and then attempted to replicate it at home, you will know no matter how hard you try it’s almost next to impossible to duplicate the taste. That doesn’t mean we’re gonna give up!

We think every family has their own variation of Butter Chicken now. And those who savour this dish will know what we’re talking about! One of the most popular dishes, many of us have sought to prepare Butter Chicken in the hopes of attaining the restaurant-like flavour, if not exactly, at home. But, more often than we'd like to admit, things have not worked out in our favour. We did, however, enjoy the homemade version as well; after all, a little taste variation never hurt anyone!

7. Pink Sauce Pasta

Pink Sauce Pasta sounds super easy to make on paper, after all you just gotta mix the white and red sauce, correct? No, and if you’ve attempted to make it at home, you will know this! Getting the sauces to the correct flavour and then mixing it together in such a way that it balances each other out, is no joke. It’s one difficult task, plus getting the right consistency for the white sauce, so that it’s not lumpy and making sure the pasta is not overcooked, are just some of the many struggles and things that can go wrong.
