7 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Netflix India's Mind-Blowing Series, The Fame Game RN!
The Fame Game was recently released on Netflix and might we just say, woah! Everyone loves it really, and its status as number 1 trending on Netflix India proves just that. It marked the debut of the iconic Madhuri Dixit on OTT and it’s safe to say that we binge-watched it in one go too. It stood out for us for a few reasons, and here they are!
1. Madhuri. Madhuri. Madhuri!

Everyone unquestionably agrees that Madhuri graced OTT with a bang! She got in the skin of her role, Anamika, and nailed every aspect of her character. A super-strong actress, mother, wife, daughter, lover and so on, who was constantly wearing a happy mask in front of the world while her world was falling apart. We were totally blown away by Madhuri’s acting, and her aesthetic and picturesque dance sequences that were lightly sprinkled throughout the series made us positive that the queen never really lost it.
2. We Absolutely Love How Anamika Handled Her Kids

A significant aspect of the story was Anamika’s relationship with her kids, which was wonderful (apart from the obviously unforeseen and lowkey irksome twist at the very end, but we’re gonna keep mum about that). She was indeed a safe space for her kids to talk to & vent and she legit supported them through it all and helped them deal with their demons. Parenting 101 lessons, y’all!
3. The Cutesy Moments Between Avi & Samar

One scene that particularly stuck with us was the simple moment where Avi & Samar were just chilling, with Avi being completely at ease and playing his guitar/Ukulele(?) and their silly banter. Although the scene quickly turned to a fight, it still gave us a window into their beautiful friendship and their subsequent love. They had been best friends for a long time and in their own words, ‘a part of each other.’ So, even though their relationship was a minuscule part of the show, ‘twas pretty great.
4. Female Cops >>> Male ‘Supercops’

Rajshri Deshpande as Shobha Trivedi was terrific. She played the part of a diligent police officer pretty well and in many instances showed how she defied the age-old stereotypes of police officers who are all bravado and barely sensitive. She faced & blatantly called out gender & sexuality discrimination and overcame all hurdles in her way of solving her case. All in all, it made us believe - female cops >>> male ‘supercops’!
5. We Could Not Guess Whodunnit Till The Very End!

The show was created in a way where literally everyone was fit to be the suspect. A crazy fan, an abusive husband, an overbearing mother, an ex-lover, an ambitious daughter, everyone was keeping secrets and everyone had their reason to kidnap Anamika. Yet, even when the mystery unfolded, we were smacked in the face by yet another unforeseen twist! The ending left us kinda unsatisfied and wanting to know what happened next, so now we’re already waiting for the next season.
6. Flawed Characters That Were Still Likable & Relatable

From the very start, we figured out one thing - the characters were definitely not perfect. Not even Anamika, not even Manish Khanna, & definitely not the rest. Yet, perhaps given how well each of the actors played their characters, they were likeable. Even Gagan Arora outdid himself as the obsessed fan, and while he was shady to the very core, we liked him! The show dealt with mental disorders, gender equality, body image, sexuality, ambitions, ageing, overbearing parents, and literally everything, in a delicate and sensitive manner, and how the actors played their parts was a real plus.
7. This Series Got Teenage Angst Down Pat

There were several absolutely moving scenes in the show, and most of them had much to do with Avi & Amara struggling in their own skin. Being raised in the shadow of a star mom & constant public limelight, these two were really drowning in the deep and dark sea called ‘teenage!’ Struggling to fit in, accept & find themselves, The Fame Game really hit the nail on the wall with their representation of the teen years, and kudos to that!
So here are our reasons for loving this totally meta show ‘The Fame Game.’ Let us know what you think of it in the comments below!
