But the next time you have such plans, make sure that you hail a cab on your way back or have a sober friend drive you home ‘cause if you’re caught driving under the influence of alcohol, you will have to shell out Rs 10,000 or jail time of 6 months or even BOTH! And if you’re caught again, you will have to pay Rs 15,000 or spend 2 years in jail or BOTH. Pretty scary, ain’t it?

Parents often give in to their children’s demands to take the family car out on a drive. But there’s actually a new provision which will prove to be pretty expensive now that the stringent new traffic rules are in place. In case of juvenile driving, the guardian or the vehicle owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 with 3 years of jail! Plus, the vehicle registration will be cancelled for a year and the juvenile accused will not be able to apply for a driving license till they attain the age of 25 years!
