6 Totally Different Career Paths That Were Taken Up By Popular Influencers You Now Know!

After graduating, most of us come face to face with existential dread. Suddenly, we’re expected to go out in the world and be ready to make a living! But how? How do you figure out what it is that you love doing, what it is that you might be good at, and what it is that’s remunerative? We might not have all the answers, but we do have a few examples, that, no matter how and where you start, you can still reach the door to success! Well, here’s a list of some popular content creators and comedians that also started out on different career paths, yet here they are!

1. Ankush Bahuguna - From Architecture To Editor At MensXP

Playing the character of a toxic internet boyfriend, who makes funny & relatable reels, and also does makeup experiments, chose a graduation subject on a simple whim - he wanted to do something different than all others. But a week into architecture, he realised it wasn’t for him! Slowly realising his writing skills (after his book won a competition), Ankush joined MensXP as a writer, and also gradually started making videos for them. Now, we all know him for his puchis and rants!

2. Kusha Kapila - From NIFT To Content Creator 

Being a scholar in school, Kusha was somehow lost after school. Being good at a bunch of things, she chose to do a bachelor's in Literature but later dropped it to join NIFT, which she soon realised wasn’t her niche. She was still exploring when she started working for iDIVA and started making videos there. She finally found her calling at 28, and that’s OK. It’s okay if you take time to figure yourself out, as long as you take that time to explore your talents and calling, and not just do what the world is doing!

3. Komal Pandey - BCom. To Fashion Blogging 

Komal Pandey is a megastar when it comes to the world of fashion blogging. A super successful fashion blogger & YouTuber. Pursuing BCom. from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College DU, Komal has stated before that she seems to have wasted 4 years of her life back then, and was at one of the lowest points in her life. It was then she decided to change things up, left the CA coaching, and started her own fashion blog! After that, she started working at POPxo, and eventually, is doing what she does best - her own thing, and we love her for it!

4. Anubhav Bassi - BA LL.B, UPSC Aspirant To Stand Up Comedian 

Anubhav Bassi’s TEDx talk is perhaps the most relatable thing out there on the internet for those in their 20s. Juggling through several careers, he started graduation at DU, then shifted to NLU for a law degree, gave exams for the army, tried preparing for UPSC, worked at jobs he didn’t love and even tried being an entrepreneur, but always saw failures after being a star student throughout his school and college life. He mentions he doesn’t know why he joined NLU. Anyway, after months of depression and years of struggle, somehow, while doing a job he didn’t love, he discovered stand up! And, now he’s the Bassi, who makes us all ROFL. 

5. Dolly Singh - B.A Hons, MBA, NIFT To Content Creator

Dolly Singh is not just someone who makes funny videos for a living anymore, she has also starred in the Netflix film Bhaag Beanie Bhaag, and probably somewhat achieved her childhood dream of ‘becoming famous.’ But obviously, it wasn’t easy for a shy and introverted girl to reach here. At 22, just like the rest of us, she had no clue about what she wanted to do in life, and after her bachelor's ended, she went for an MBA that wasn’t her cup of tea. Eventually, she appeared for NIFT and ranked 3rd, pursued a Masters in Fashion Management, and, after a lot of trial and error, she’s where she is now, teaching us that it’s OK not knowing what to do, and eventually, you’ll get there. 

6. Biswa Kalyan Rath - IIT Kharagpur To Comedian 

As many of you know, this ‘Mast-Aadmi’ did his graduation in Biotechnology from IIT Kharagpur. In an Insta post, he had mentioned how he had failed in many subjects, couldn’t get a placement, and felt like he wasn’t good at anything. His first job was a sales job from which he was fired in 3 months. He also took up a job in graphic design at a tech company. Finally, he somehow got interested in stand-up comedy and quit his job to pursue it full-time. The show Pretentious Movie Reviews which he did with Kanan Gill gained him a lot of popularity on YouTube. He advises us to hang in there, for things shall surely get better!
