Sealing of unauthorised commercial establishments just returned to the capital, and this time it’s hit South Delhi’s super popular market, Defence Colony! DAMN! The municipal authorities have shut down over 50 shops and restaurants in Defence Colony Market and Chattarpur!
Here’s What Happened | There’s a whole bunch of establishments in the city that are operating illegally from residential premises, and these are the ones the Municipal Corporation is targeting. Originally, the market was earmarked as a shopping-cum-residential complex with the ground floors meant for commercial activities and first floor and above for residential purposes.
But after the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 was notified, this market was converted into a local shopping centre for commercial purposes, leading to the building of shops and eateries on the first floors as well. And now, the authorities having woken up to the illegality of this, restaurants and shops made on the 1st floor and above have been sealed! This list of restaurants includes places like Social to Moets, Aka Saka and many others.
P.S. - This ain’t the end of it, MCD sources state that the next drive for sealing shall take place on Tuesday, 26th December where they’ll be focussing on popular hubs like Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas, Green Park and South Ex too! WOAH!
