And frankly, we loved the show. Even with all its slight flaws and minor shortcomings, the show has proved to be an engaging story with some strong messages that need to be addressed in society today, and we’re loving the entire 90s vibe of the show. So, without further ado, let's dive right into why you need to watch the series, Maharani, ASAP!

1. It’s An Important Commentary On Caste & Class-Based Politics In Bihar

Maharani has created quite a stir with its depiction of politics in Bihar, especially concerning class and caste politics. It throws light on how caste has over the decades played a major role in determining the status of a person in Bihar, the caste-based atrocities and violence carried out by the supposed ‘upper caste’ section of society, and their justification for the same. In the show, we see the response of the upper castes to the rise of leaders belonging to oppressed castes for many decades. Depicting the dynamics of Bihar politics, the series is sure to take you down a road that will have you on the edge of your seats with each episode!

2. Huma Qureshi’s Flawless And Badass Performance That Stole Hearts

Huma Qureshi stands out in this political thriller and shines for her incredible acting. Perfectly personifying the hesitant woman who has been thrust into the circle of political power unwillingly, we see her slowly gain confidence and break out of her shell to embody the strong and confident woman that she is. She even worked on her accent and body language to do justice to her role as an uneducated woman living in the country, who is completely removed from the world of politics and just wants to tend to her cows. Watch the show for her incredible performance and you won’t regret it!

3. Embodies A Gripping Political Thriller With A Brilliant Supporting Cast

While Huma Qureshi definitely did a fabulous job, we can’t overlook the brilliant supporting cast that did run the show to a certain extent, giving us all the action and thrill you would expect from a political thriller. Amit Sial did a fantastic job of depicting the ruffled opposition leader and Pramod Pathak played the ever-loyal and sharp right-hand man for Sahib, while Sohum Shah played his character with a calm and precise temperament. Moreover, the interactions and standoffs of Bheema with his wife are something you won’t expect to see and carry on with a strange calmness rather than the fierce outbursts you would expect!

4. The Desi & Aesthetic 90s Setting Of The Entire Series Makes Us Nostalgic

Set in 1990s Bihar, the cinematography of the series is an ode to the rugged and raw visuals of the heartland, even though the series wasn’t shot in Bihar. Still, the series beautifully captures the essence of livelihood of a time long gone and the ethos of the state, keeping true to the correct Bhojpuri and Hindi dialogues in the script as well as the right accents. What’s more, the production designs, background scores and setting of the show add to its charm and overall desi vibe of the series!

5. The Plot Underlines A Strong & Powerful Female Lead & Is Loosely Based On Real Events

If y’all missed out on this fact, then let us tell you that the show is loosely based on real events that took place in Bihar back in the 1990s, when the former CM Lalu Prasad hand-picked his wife, Rabri Devi, as his successor to become Bihar's first and by far the only woman chief minister after his name came up in the fodder scam. Yep, the similarities are uncanny and the series goes on to show a similar scenario where Rani is seen taking on the task of administering state politics while having no formal education or grasp of politics!

Does the plot of the series ignite curiosity in you? Well then, go on and make yourself a tub of popcorn and enjoy this brilliant show, now!
