20 Of The Most Awaited Indian Series And Movies Releasing Online In 2021

Though 2020 pushed everyone indoors, it was also the year that witnessed the rise of OTT platforms to glory. And now we eagerly wait with bated breath for new releases online just like we did (or do) for theatrical releases. So, we’ve made a list of some much-awaited movies/series for 2021 that have been announced (at the time of writing this article). Make sure to bookmark them and let’s dive into the list!

1. Tribhanga 

This dramedy series is releasing on Netflix and is starring renowned actresses like Kajol, Mithila Palkar and Renuka Shahane. The story follows the life of a dysfunctional family that leads to a series of errors in their routine life, surely makes it quite promising!

Tandav is releasing this month on Amazon Prime Video and is a political-drama film. This movie has popular names such as Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia and Gauhar Khan, to name a few of the stellar actors. Did you know it’s Saif’s second series after  Sacred Games?

3. Gullak Season 2

Releasing this January on Sony Liv, this story follows a middle-class family that will make you fall in love with their bickering and crazy antics. Gullak, a word that translates to piggy-bank - this one can surely be defined as a piggy bank of lovable moments and precious memories that will make you smile.

Starring well-known names like Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rajkummar Rao, this one is releasing in January on Netflix. The plot revolves around the life of clever household help and his journey to the top of the tier.

5. Jeet Ki Zid

This story is about the life of a veteran soldier who’s left crippled below the waist after the Kargil War, and it’s coming soon on Alt Balaji. Starring Amit Sadh in the lead, he goes on to crack IIM and becomes a successful professional in the corporate world. Now if this ain’t motivating, then what is?

6. Bang Baang

Starring Faisal Shaikh, Ruhi Singh and Shataf Figar, this one is a Zee5 original and will be releasing soon. This action thriller series looks pretty promising in the trailer. Follow Raghu who’s suspected of two murders, with no evidence against him. Is he really the killer?

7. The Family Man Season 2

The previous season starred Manoj Bajpayee in the lead and won a million hearts with its amazing storytelling. This February, season 2 is coming back on Amazon Prime Video and it will also star names like Seema Biswas, Darshan Kumar & Sharad Kelkar, amongst many.

8. Kapil Sharma’s Upcoming Show

Though the official name for the series is Coming Soon, this show is releasing for sure on Netflix. The teaser looks promising and we’re waiting for Kapil Sharma to tickle our funny bones with his quirky sense of humour!

9. The Big Bull

The Big Bull will be releasing soon on Disney+ Hotstar. A rags to riches story, the plot revolves around the life of the controversial stockbroker Harshad Mehta. Abhishek Bachchan will be seen as playing the lead role and Ileana D’Cruz, in a supporting role. We’re defo interested in this one!

10. Bhuj: The Pride Of India

The next one on this list is also slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar. The story is based on the Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot, squadron leader Vijay Karmik (played by Ajay Devgn) and his contributions. Did you know this movie is set in the 1970s during the Indo-Pak war?

11. Bhoomi

Bhoomi is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar. Follow a NASA astronaut, who returns to his village but isn’t received very well but still goes ahead to help them with farming before going off to Mars. A tale definitely worth watching, isn’t it?

12. Drishyam 2

Drishyam 2 is releasing on Amazon Prime Video and is the second instalment of the movie that created quite a fan base. The movie looks pretty promising from the little info that was available in the teaser. However, we’re hoping the next instalment will be as good as the first one.

13. Mumbai Diaries 26/11

Based on the horrific terrorist attack of 26/11 in Mumbai, it is releasing on Prime Video and stars notable actors like Mohit Raina, Konkona Sen Sharma, Tina Desai and Shreya Dhanwanthar. It’s a homage to the valiant souls of the frontline fighters who laid their lives during one of the deadliest attacks!

After Bulbbul, this is the second Netflix production by Anushka Sharma that’s set to be released on the online streaming platform. The plot revolves around the life of a 47-year-old widow who lives a double life of a don, played by Sakshi Tanwar. Yep, we’re intrigued for sure!
