Brahmastra was recently released in theatres and NGL, it has completely blown us to bits (‘cause it’s just SO good!). No, this is definitely not a paid promotion and no one is making us say this - but we really did LOVE it! A Bollywood fantasy/superhero movie made purely to be enjoyed in cinemas and give you an enthralling experience - we were just so confused on reading reviews by people who were just being wet blankets - nitpicking for no real reason, it’s then that we thought about sharing how we felt about it! So if you want a review by a few Bollywood fangirls who couldn’t get enough of the supposedly longish 2 and a half hours of the film, read on!

P.S. - We’re trying to keep spoilers to a bare minimum, but even if we do, apologies!

1. Ranbir Kapoor… (And Shahrukh, And Amitabh, And Alia, And Nagarjuna, And Mouni, Need We Say More?)

The shining star cast is obviously the biggest plus of this mega-ambitious movie. Girls and boys all over the world swoon over the celeb couple Ranbir Kapoor & Alia Bhatt, each a heartthrob in their own right. If that wasn’t enough, the opening scene featuring Shahrukh Khan as a ‘sexy scientist’ made our grins literally fall off our faces. The entire star cast has done a tremendous job - Nagarjuna looks dashing as ever, Mouni adds moons and stars to her role, and Amitabh’s prowess needs no introduction. Every Bollywood fanatic is bound to be swept off their feet, including us.

2. The VFX Game Is Literally Out Of The Park

When Ayan-Mukherjee said that the real way to enjoy this movie was in 3D, he was completely right. The VFX game of the film was bang on point, and our jaws were dropped in most scenes. The visual appeal of the film rates 10/10, and the way it was shot is nothing if not aesthetic. The focus on ‘light’ reminded us of our Disney favourite ‘Tangled’ in some places and in our minds, it's a win!

3. Deva-Deva & Other Banger Songs

Brahmastra might not have many songs but we can definitely play each one of them on loop endlessly, and we’re sure so can you! Plus, we felt like Kesariya was meant to be played on the big screen… and we just can’t get over how good Deva Deva felt, especially with Ranbir simply flowing through the music and subtly showing off his ‘fire astra.’ Dance Ka Bhoot is definitely a number we can dance to and ‘Rasiya,’ in the last scene felt magical. Not just the songs, but even the background music complemented the story perfectly, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

4. To Envy/Get Inspired From Alia’s Wardrobe

Alia nailed each look she was in, be it the casual ‘world-might-be-ending,’ or the bright red pooja saree that took our breath away, the everyday college girl like red shrug and jeans, or the black co-ord set that we all can only dream of pulling off in our night outs. Each of the looks was perfect and NGL, we’re SO jealous of that wardrobe.

5. The Fight Sequences

article image

The fight sequences definitely elicited some excited hooting, clapping and cheers from the audience, ‘cause they deserved it! The fight sequences made us sit up in full attention, not giving away for a single second as to what might happen next. A special note of the car fighting sequence… You’re gonna have to see for yourself to find out or IYKYK.

6. The Blend Of Mythology And Fantasy

If you’re someone who can take up any and every excuse to escape this boring reality, you’d not be disappointed at all. Lost in the world of mythology and fantasy, you’d barely miss your pending tasks even for a second. The world of astras and bad guys and fire and light are gripping to the very least, and you’d have to give credit even if your standards are set in stone and are the highest. It might be no Marvel but man, it’s a pretty damn well-good endeavour, and it’s about time you accept and support it.

7. A Romance Story Nobody Can Say No To

article image

Well, if it doesn’t go all out on the romance angle, is it even Bollywood?! As always, this film will give you unrealistic expectations about love and romance, just the way we like it. Romance is the spine of the film and all those who say it was unnecessary apparently did not get the story at all. Yes, it was all out and all in, but isn’t that what the world of films is about? Especially fantasy films? Anyway, rant over. The thing is, knowing that the lead couple ended up together in real life as well added that next-level charm and ‘awwww’ feels to their scenes. Anyone who’s grown up watching Bollywood movies is a sucker for romance, and we’re sure they were won over by the film.

8. Finally A ‘Fantasy/Superhero’ Movie With An Indian Touch

article image

The ‘Astraverse’ is undoubtedly the 1st of its kind in Indian cinema, and we’d like you to simply take a moment and appreciate the immense hard work that has been put into its making. The VFX, the detailing, the aesthetic - this movie is a pioneer of these kinds of fantasy films in Bollywood, that too on that large scale, providing reason enough to give the film a shot if you haven’t already! This is hopefully the beginning of something new and unexplored in Indian cinema, something that marks a difference from the same ole remakes and the masala, yet aims to completely wow the audience with its graphics and screenplay. Kudos!

9. A Villain That Will Keep Up The Suspense

article image

The villain whose even glimpse we couldn’t catch has definitely taken the suspense off the charts. Constant speculation about the identity of the villain and his mysterious defeater, who is related to the protagonist, Shiva in a deeper way than you could’ve thought, creates ample anticipation and eagerness about the next movie in the franchise that is set to be a prequel. Well, if you’re all caught up on Bolly goss, you already know who Dev & Amrita might be. If you’re not, we’ll leave it to you to uncover the secret. Anyhoo, if you’ve seen the movie without the sole aim of judging it to bits, we’re sure you’re super eager for the next part as well. We sure are!

10. Ayan Mukerji’s Ambitious Vision

article image

As we said, the grand scale of this franchise is unparalleled. The magic of VFX (all made in India!), treatment of the astras, and grandeur of everything surrounding the characters, make it a visual spectacle and truly a cinematic experience to be enjoyed on the big screen. We applaud Ayan Mukherjee for his vision, and his creation of this mystical universe - something Bollywood has rarely seen before. Ultimately, we’re kept waiting for Part II and if that’s not a win, we don’t know what is!
