Experience Stirring Desh Bhakti By Witnessing The Beating Retreat Ceremony At Wagah Border

Bookmark

The border of two very culturally close, yet politically apart countries, the Wagah Border is a road border between India and Pakistan. Most people have their share of knowledge about the Wagah Border from movies like Lakshay and Veer Zaara but there’s way more to it than its depiction in the popular culture.

Despite being super crowded, this place leaves you mesmerised! Seeing children in tricolour caps, listening to the crowd chant India’s name, and gazing with awe at the tricolour hoisted high gives you a deep sense of pride and fills your heart with patriotism.

It is a famous tourist spot because of the beating retreat ceremony that is held every day before sunset. Almost 5,000 people visit the border to witness this ceremony, the highlight of which is the lowering of the flags of both the countries simultaneously, followed by the soldiers shaking hands and the national anthem being sung at the end.

If you’re taking a trip to Amritsar anytime soon, we’d suggest reserving one evening entirely for this. You’ll return with a dose of patriotism and an overwhelming pride for your nationality.
