This Is A Representative Image
In a time where the focus is being put on contactless deliveries, wouldn’t it be absolutely cool to have your food delivered by a drone? Well, this is not wishful thinking anymore, ‘cause it may happen sooner than we can anticipate!
Delivery Drones Are Almost Here | We just got wind that the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given approval to food delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy and Dunzo to start the testing of beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) drones for delivery purposes. Asteria Aerospace which is backed by Reliance, SpiceJet, Zomato, Swiggy and Dunzo are amongst the other 13 companies that have received the nod for this testing.
They will have to complete 100 hours of flight time in a particular air space before the 30th of September and then submit a report to the DGCA. Did you know this will India’s first step towards local drone-based services? Yep, SpiceXpress (by SpiceJet) received permission to perform trials after which it will be using this to deliver perishables and medical supplies.
In fact, last year, Zomato successfully conducted a drone trial wherein it delivered a payload of 5 kg covering 5 km in 10 minutes and picking up the speed of 80 kmph. The aim will, therefore, be to deliver these within 15 mins and this is only possible if it’s done by air!
Would you opt for this service if it happens soon?
