Diwali is right around the corner, but the smog conditions outside continue to deteriorate. Every year, rising smog levels in the city have become an utter menace, and the situation takes a turn for the worse during the months of October and November. To tackle the problem, this is what the Delhi Government plans to do this year!
A Much-Needed Step? | On Friday, the 6th of November, the Delhi Environment Minister announced that if someone is found selling or bursting crackers, they can be fined upto Rs 1 lakh! Yep, this came in a day after the Delhi Government announced a ban on the sale and use of all kinds of firecrackers, including ‘green crackers’. Tha ban was enforced on the 7th of November and this will extend upto 30th November i.e. Monday.
The aim of this move is to ensure that the pollution caused by the burning of firecrackers do not contribute to the already grim situation of smog levels resulting from stubble burning.
Do you support this move by the government?
