Witness The Northern Lights As This Indian Airline Will Be The 1st One To Fly Over The North Pole

One of the most sought-after things for long-distance flights is the view. And if you’re a sucker for the window seat, then you’ll definitely want to secure one the next time you book a flight to this city. ‘Cause Air India will be flying over the North Pole very soon!

Flying High Over The Northern Lights | Air India will soon become the first Indian airline to fly over the North Pole which will connect New Delhi to San Francisco. It’ll take its first flight on Thursday, the 15th of August, when the country celebrates its Independence Day. This is an awesome piece of news as there will be reduced flight time which will, in turn, lead to conservation of fuel, reduced carbon emission (6,000 kg to 21,000 kg) and better utility of the aircraft.

But there are also certain challenges that the airline would have to overcome such as limited choice for diversion airports, solar radiations, passenger & aircraft retrieval and fuel freezing, to name a few. The new route will save approx. 90 minutes reducing the travel time to 15.5 hours. Right now, it goes over China, Myanmar, Japan and Bangladesh before crossing the Pacific Ocean to enter the US.The new route will include flying over Canada, Arctic Ocean, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan before it could finally enter the United States.

Sounds, pretty exciting, doesn’t it? You know, you might even get to witness the ethereal Northern Lights!
