Delhiites, it’s sadly become a pretty common occurrence to have the city covered in a blanket of haze during November. And if the Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor SAFAR is to be believed, there’s one thing in particular that contributed a significant chunk to the pollution in the city this year. Find out what it is below.
The Bad Kinda Contribution | According to the Central Pollution Control Board, stubble burning has contributed quite a bit towards air pollution in the city this year. The share stood somewhere between 44 - 45% of pollution from Punjab and Haryana on Friday, the 1st of November. Suggestions have been made for a special drive to remove construction and demolition waste before October.
Plus, there have been recommendations to increase the number of public transports on the road in order to facilitate the movement of people to curb gas pollution. Currently, there are 5,500 buses and 370 kilometers of metro network with around 42 lakh people travelling by bus while 50.13 lakh by metro every day.
Let’s hope people gain more awareness about the harmful effects of stubble burning and we get respite from this toxic gas chamber we’ve been living in for a while now!
