The Legal Age Of Marriage For Girls Will Soon Increase From 18 To 21, The Same As Men!

There are two types of girls  - those who are like Geet from Jab We Met, jinko bachpan se hi shaadi karne ka bohot craze hota hai by god, and those who’re her opposites. Whoever you are, here’s a piece of news that’s gonna affect your wedding day and in a good way, so read on! 

From 18 To 21 | If you’re someone who danced with joy when PM Modi announced the plan to raise the marriage age of women from 18 to 21 years - the same as men, here’s some progress in that matter that’s gonna bring a smile to your face. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed a proposal for the same and the Cabinet has cleared the push. Now, following the Cabinet’s approval, the Government will introduce an amendment to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and consequently bring amendments to the Special Marriage Act and personal laws such as the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. 

Based on a report submitted by the Niti Ayog in December 2020, such a decision was related to lowering the Maternal Mortality Rate, improvement of nutritional levels and overall empowerment of women. They also extensively consulted young adults, especially girls who all gave agreeable feedback. 

We’re hoping this is a beginning and one of the many moves that will, in turn, improve the conditions of women in all areas - rural and urban. What do you think about this?
