The DMRC Will Be Issuing Pink Tokens For Free Metro Rides For All The Ladies
Free metro travel for women was a subject that created quite a buzz recently and we just got word about another development on this!
Pink Tokens = Free Metro Rides | Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot recently said that women will be able to avail free metro rides only via pink tokens that shall be available at metro stations under the scheme introduced by the Delhi Government. These pink tokens are considered a short-term plan and will be rolled out for the next 2-3 months. All you’ll need to do is let the ticketing staff know your destination and a top-up value will be added to the token!
The government is planning to deploy civil defence volunteers in order to manage the crowds at the stations apart from the CISF and metro staff. The long term plan is expected to be rolled out in the next 10 months wherein pink cards will be issued to women and the DMRC will probably add a few more entry/exit automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at the stations.
Moreover, it hasn’t yet been decided if this scheme will include only Delhi residents and the government aims to launch a registration campaign to create a database of women travellers. Plus, a penalty might also be introduced in case men are found to be using such pink cards or tokens.
