Talking About The Most Beautiful Fountain in All of Delhi - The Nirankari Fountain!
The Nirankari Sarovar Complex is a good place to spend a quiet evening in general. But of late, the visitor flow has increased significantly and that's all owing to the Fountain of Oneness. Designed to be a structural landmark, this is probably the most beautiful fountain in Delhi at the moment. The sheer artistry and imagination that has gone into its design makes it worth at least one visit!
A Colossal Blossom
The fountain looks like a colossal lotus from a distance. As you move closer, you realize the magnitude of the structure. It actually depicts human figures holding hands and creating a human chain delivering the message of unity and universal brotherhood. But they're massive and life-size, and the hands look like arches looming large over the visitors.
It has taken more than six years to be completed, and has been designed to be an enchanting melange of sound and light as well as water representing the values of the mission. When the water is not pouring forth, visitors can have a closer look at the structure by walking up the four pathways that depict the diversity of the people that converge here to achieve 'oneness' through love and compassion.
The colourful globe at the centre of the fountain represents that final spiritual destination. The small pond surrounding and feeding the fountain is adorned with beautiful water lilies and lotuses. Large stone lotus structures have also been placed amidst the real blossoms.
Stunning Light & Sound Show
The fountain assumes a different dimension after dark with the surreal lighting. It is especially brilliant during the light and sound show, which takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday after 6:30 PM. Just as it gets dark, the volunteers clear the area and line up the visitors and make them sit on the sidewalks or benches, if available. Once the fountain area is clear of people, it starts to flow and the show begins! It mainly talks about the ideology of the Nirankari Mission, but the visuals and use of colours are amazing and in terms of technical quality, it can be rated way above the light and sound shows in the major archaeological monuments in Delhi.
What to Keep in Mind
While you're allowed to walk all over the fountain and click photographs during day time, you must maintain your distance once the show starts. You are not allowed to shoot anything without special permission and should not move or create a nuisance while the show is on. Generally, a reasonable crowd gathers during the show evenings. So reach as early as possible in order to avoid waiting in a long queue!
