Store Review | Vintage Luxury & Colonial Charm At Timothy Oulton's Newly Opened Flagship Store in Def Col!
British designer Timothy Oulton’s eponymous furniture and interior design label just arrived in India with its flagship store in the upscale Defence Colony neighbourhood and we went to scout it out for you! Spread over two floors, the 3600 square foot gallery is their 37th branch worldwide and houses unique designs spanning furniture, lighting and home accessories.
Showcasing the brand’s signature relaxed-yet-sophisticated aesthetic infused with a risqué modern vibe, each piece on display is an inspired work of art with its own story to tell. Plush carpets, leather sofas, elaborate glass chandeliers, travel-weary trunks, fencing swords and fresh roses in champagne buckets all come together in a delicious mix of class and character. Quintessentially English elements like the Union Jack, tobacco pipes and high tea cups are also interspersed throughout.
Oulton successfully transports one to a bygone era with products seeped in British heritage but with contemporary customizations, thus creating truly timeless stories in leather, velvet, glass, wood and metal. Here are a few (of many!) articles that we wouldn’t mind looking at everyday:
Tribeca Tufted Sofa | Inspired by the Chesterfield, it features hand-tufting- an age-old technique which requires each button to be sewn individually to the sofa frame. It simply calls out to you with open decadent high-framed arms and a rich leather finish. Come hither!
Zig Zag Table Lamp | The reflections and refractions created by delicate glass spheres suspended in a minimalistic metal skeleton bounce off each other to project almost kaleidoscopic patterns in this beautiful lamp. Understated elegance at its best.
Crystal Chandelier | Their Crystal lighting range is inspired by the elaborate designs of the late Georgian era chandeliers. This handcrafted piece features large crystal baluster centrepieces, precision cut glass crystals, candle lights and corresponding bobeche dishes, originally used to collect candle wax.
Cumberland Desk | There’s something inherently grand about the black and gold palette which this desk encapsulates well. The dense lamp-black patina of the leather is perfectly offset by the sheen of brass hardware, giving it an almost royal look.
The seamless blend of comfort and luxury is easily embodied in the décor and ambience here. Every object is a conversation-starter and the display is a veritable feast for the eyes! If you’ve got the monies, then Timothy Oulton’s evergreen designs are definitely a good investment. We left thoroughly impressed!
