River Yamuna Was Finally Sparkling Blue On Sat. As The Country Observes A 21-Day Lockdown

Hello, Delhizens! Y’all know that we’ve been under self-quarantine for a while now and with most of the factories shut, this is what’s happening to the Yamuna river.

Once In A Blue Moon | Most of the factories have been shut for days now and this has actually impacted River Yamuna more positively than we could’ve imagined. Yep, on Saturday, the 4th of April, the river, which is generally filled with toxic waste and covered with the foam owing to industrial waste, was seen glistening in a beautiful shade of blue. Moreover, it’s also believed that the stench of the dying river also showed some marginal improvement, which is a pretty big deal.

For years, there have been multiple fund allocations and projects to revive the Yamuna but it was the shutting down of factories that made an impact in just a matter of days. However, sewage waste from colonies that haven’t been linked to the treatment plant still continues to flow into the river.

However, this is the ideal time to observe pollution and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will soon collect samples from the river to study the impact of lockdown.

Let’s hope we take a lesson from this lockdown period and realise how we need to work with nature, not against it.
