Rescinding Its Ban On Sale Of Firecrackers In Delhi, SC Now Says It'll "Re-Evaluate"

So last year the Supreme Court had put a ban on permanent sale of crackers in the capital city, and they just announced that they “for the time being” are lifting the ban on the same! The Supreme Court has revoked its order of suspending the permanent licences for sale of firecrackers within the National Capital Region and are saying that they’ll take a final decision about this after Diwali depending on the air quality post the festival!

A committee has been appointed to keep a check on the health of the people during the key fire cracker-burning festivals, Dussehra and Diwali. The court has also told Delhi Police to reduce the number of temporary licenses issued by 50%.

The Central Government, in an interview, said that in view of the human right to breathe clean air and the human right to health, the Central Government and other authorities should consider encouraging display of fireworks through community participation rather than individually bursting them. But what we fail to understand is why not put a blanket on the act of bursting fireworks all together? It seems like the Central Government is simply contradicting themselves.

Personally, we feel, seeing the air pollution level that increased by a humongous level last year, putting a blanket on fireworks is the only route to take. Why so confused Central Government?
