In what was the longest-running standoff between the farmers and the govt of India, there has been a huge development with the PM addressing the nation today in the morning of Guru Nanak Jayanti, and announcing the repeal of the 3 very controversial farm laws. Read on for more details below.
Contentious Farm Laws Taken Back! | The 3 agricultural laws that were introduced last year in September and which sought to liberalise India’s agriculture markets were repealed today, in a surprising speech by the PM. The laws allowed farmers to directly sell their produce, outside government-regulated wholesale markets to big buyers. The govt had insisted that these laws shall help the farmers get better prices, while on the other hand, the farmers were concerned about losing their support prices and being vulnerable to competition from bog businesses leading to an adamant stand from both parties, as neither side was willing to relent to the other.
The farmers had been protesting these farm laws since 26th November 2020 at Delhi’s Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders. And now, on 19th November 2021, almost a year later, the PM announced that the laws shall be withdrawn since they failed to garner the support of the farmers.
Mr Modi has urged the farmers to return back homes, and well, it’s huge news! What are your thoughts on the same, guys?
