Old Lajpat Rai Mkt In Old Delhi Is The Oldest Wholesale Electrical Goods Market

This marketplace is widely considered to be one of the largest places for electrical goods and components all over Delhi. Lajpat Rai Market, a few steps away from the Red Fort and just opposite the Jain Temple, is also one of the oldest wholesale electrical goods market in the capital region dealing with products like mobile phones, pirated music CDs, CD and DVD players, video games etc. The nearest metro station is Chandni Chowk. Read all about it - scroll on!

Spotted Here

Rows of small shops greet you when you enter this market from any of its multiple entries. You’ll find scores of people selling mobile phones (Chinese duplicates and secondhand pieces of major brands and local models too), pirated CDs that give you the privilege of viewing the latest movies before the originals hit the market and various electronic products like lighting materials, TV sets, digital satellite equipment - et al.

This market is also THE place for high-end electronic equipment like CCTV cameras and home security systems that gives this market a high number of footfall on a daily basis. Moreover, this place offers the best of discounts if you’re a keen bargainer.

All The Major Stores

Some of the major stores that you’ll find in the market are JK Traders dealing in electronics, home appliances and digital satellite TV sets. Then there’s Swaran Electronics which offers electronic products and wireless equipment at the best possible prices compared to the retail market. Bhaskar Radios is another shop dealing in inverters, battery isolators and regular home appliance equipment, again at wholesale prices. There is a hitch though - the bigger the order, higher the discount on offer.

Thorough Check Required

You would be excited to see the various mobile models on offer, however, on being quoted a price of Rs 3,500 for a Samsung Galaxy Note, we realised that the phone was a copy of the original model which was quite evident once the phone was switched on and the internal features were screened. The same is the case with the movies and music CDs that are sold here. So a word of caution to all prospective buyers: always check the product thoroughly before buying it as there have been stories about problems that customers face after buying products from shopkeepers who make false promises to sell their products.

All said and done, this market caters to all kinds of customers, giving enough options to even the ‘not so rich’ strata of Delhi’s society. This makes this market more popular among the customers who come from far and wide to buy their favourite gadgets and home appliances, at affordable prices.

So when are you heading over - wallets in tow?!
