COVID-19 has certainly changed the way of life and now more than ever, it’s important for us to adapt to the new normal. Despite, all the paranoia and the fear of the unknown, there are people who are not adhering to social distancing norms and are openly flouting the rules that have been set in place to help everyone out. And so, to combat such miscreants, this is what the Delhi Government has decided.

An Expensive Punishment? | On Saturday, the 13th Of June, Lt. Governor, Anil Baijal empowered health, revenue and police officials to impose fines on those found flouting rules. The challans have been capped at Rs 1,000. First-time offenders will be fined Rs 500 while the repeated offenders will have to pay up Rs 1,000. Moreover, those who fail to pay on the spot will have to face severe consequences.

Rule violations, in this case, include acts of defying quarantine rules, not adhering to social distancing, not wearing a face mask in public spaces (like workspace or grocery stores), consumption of tobacco in public places and spitting in open spaces. All these offences shall make you liable to pay fines. These new penalties come in place after Delhi has been recording a disturbingly high number of cases of new infections every day.

We hope that people take a cue from these new rules and start following them as it's for their own benefit.
