A Beautiful Market In South Delhi's Posh Locality, Visit The Jorbagh Market For Utilities Shopping
The residential area of Jorbagh is actually quite pleasant & idyllic. It is one of the few places in Delhi where you can still find houses instead of concrete towers and the locality is peaceful & tranquil. Jorbagh Market is in sync with the posh & upmarket surroundings. This is not a typical Delhi market as it caters to a particular economic class & the nature of the shops point towards it. The cleanliness of the market is one thing which also sets it apart from other markets in the Capital.
Location
The location can be easily accessed from the Jorbagh Metro Station on the Yellow Line although the Jorbagh Market is not exactly in the vicinity of the station; hence, an auto or a rickshaw ride would have to do. The auto should not be paid more than Rs 30 & it passes through some historically enchanting landmarks such as Safdarjung’s Tomb & Lodhi Gardens.
Setting
As one ambles through the area & lets the surroundings register, one can’t help but notice the quiet, sleepy & lazy ambience the place has to it. The market is nestled around plush residences & some of the cars in the parking area reflect the affluence of the spending class. Jorbagh Market is a multi-storey rectangular structure with shops around its perimeter & like Connaught Place (CP) it is painted in white.
Catering to the Class
If one is a connoisseur of antique & modern furniture, Crystal Look is a must visit showroom which showcases an exquisite range of wood work. Miraya is a boutique for women which demands immediate attention. The mannequins display elaborate designs & fashion keeping in mind the taste of the rich fashionistas. As one moves away from Miraya, C Lal & Sons mesmerises you with a rare collection of stones, inlay art ware, Rajasthani handicrafts, inlay wood carvings, scented candles, blue pottery & Zardozi gift boxes etc. The shop is beautifully set up & displays ardent creations with vivid details. It is a perfect place to splurge & lives up to your taste.
The building houses a bookshop, which seems abundant enough to cater to the reading needs of the populace. The market has a shoe shop too, called, Kim Brothers. Four Seasons Gallery provides one with handmade paper products. The ingenuity of their products is worth appreciating.
Catering to the Needs
The market also has a couple of banks such as Punjab National Bank (PNB) & HDFC along with their ATMs. It also has a travel agency. There is a chemist store too which should suffice for normal medical requirements of the residents. The florist shop at one end of the market compound adds vivacity to the surroundings.
It also has a Sarvodaya Vidyalaya on its periphery & a perfectly maintained park on the opposite side. The park has three tennis courts to nurture the young Devvarmans & Djokovics of India.
