Inspired by the World-Famous Dabbawalas of Mumbai, We Had An Amazing Meal @ Tamra, Shangri-La's Eros Hotel

We've come across numerous instances of Delhiites and Mumbaikars having a go at each other but there is a certain amount of respect as well which is undeniable! We, for example, can proudly say that Delhi loves the chilled out vibe of Bombay (yes, It's not Mumbai for us and will never be!) and is in awe of one of the highlights of the financial capital of India, the Dabbawalas!

Having a National Geographic movie dedicated to the system of the Dabbawalas, we're pretty sure everyone must be aware of who they are but for those still living under a rock, the Dabbawalas are an organisation unto themselves.

Their nexus runs with such accuracy and precision that tiffins all over the city of Mumbai are picked up from their source houses and delivered to the destination offices and that too before lunch time. The error margin is said to be next to negligible. (pretty awesome eh?!)

And so as a mark of respect and tribute to the work of these dabbawalas, Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel, the lavish and extravagant 5 star chain, has curated a special menu consisting of various dabba meals!

At Tamra, the multi cuisine restaurant, where the dabba fan fare is on till 31st May, 2017 has left no stones unturned when it comes to keeping it as close to the real thing as possible. The Dabba will be brought to your table by a designated dabbawala on a cycle complete with those yesteryear copper tiffins et al!

So here we decided to list our top fave dabbas which you must order:

Shudh Shakahari

The name itself is enough to explain the contents of this Dabba and we still couldn't resist ordering this all vegetarian delight! From Tawa Chaap to Kairi ki Dal to fragrant pulao, it would be safe to say that this Dabba deserves a special round of applause. The Chaap was stuffed with beautiful ingredients and the gravy, cooked on a tawa, went perfectly well with it! The Kairi ki Dal had a hint of raw mango infused in the lentils and was probably one of the best dals we've ever had!

Thailand ka Dabba

Shangri-La has done us a favour by keeping the names of their dabbas as self explanatory as possible. Knowing it's a Thai Dabba, there was bound to be a Thai Green Curry which was paired with the most delicious Jasmine Rice along with a stellar Chicken Krapow. The Krapow was a dry preparation made using chicken keema rolled in Thai spices and diced vegetables. On the other hand, the Green Curry simply blew us away with its distinct sweet flavour and the fragrant hint of lemongrass making us fall in love with this Dabba too! Trust us and do order this too!

Desi Dabba

Saving perhaps the best for the last, Tamra pulled out all the stops when it came to this bad boy! A Mint and Tamatar Pulao paired with a lip smacking Lehsuni Dal and to top it all, the Bhuna Boti Masala did what no other Dabba could even think of doing! Such succulent and tender pieces of mutton, this semi gravy mutton dish would be enough to make you come back to Tamra again to order the same dish with your eyes closed. The Lehsuni dal was a perfect partner to the mutton while the pulao did its job as a side dish!

To wash all this down, they have drinks like Masala Cola, Thanda Banta and Shikanji which we happily glugged down, in the beautiful interiors of Tamra with its open kitchens and one of the largest buffet spreads in town!

We couldn't get enough of the Mumbaiya style Dabbawala tiffins done with such effortless panache! Go ahead guys, you wouldn't wanna miss this!
