The North-East Indian and Tibetan students comprise a fine percentage in Delhi’s higher education scene and living away from home brings with it a sense of nostalgia for the culture, customs and food of their state. There are many food outlets and restaurants in the city that serve delicious North Eastern and Tibetan food. Here are some of the best!

Rosang Cafe

Green Park

Run by a North-Eastern couple, the cafe has managed to replicate the subtle charm of the North East in our bustling capital. The cafe has a simple decor with N-E inspired furnishings and decorations and the menu has a range of dishes from all the 7 states and Sikkim! The most recommended items on the menu include Axom Tea, Iromba Chutney, Red Rice Beverage and Wild Red Rice. A meal for two here costs approximately Rs 1,000.

Rigo Restaurant

Majnu ka Tila

Rigo Restaurant is known for its delectable and authentic Tibetan food served in a warm and welcoming ambience in the heart of the Tibetan settlement – Majnu ka Tilla. An unpretentious restaurant, you can happily gobble up truly authentic North-Eastern delicacies here. Do try their Beef Chilli Dry, Pan Fried Momos, Veg Imadasi, Green Salad, Mokthuk and Veg Thenduk. AMA Restaurant, with a cafe operating in the same area is known for its delicious Tibetan food. The restaurant has a great vibe about it with vivid and fun interiors. Ama Kitchen serves some authentic Tibetan  food like Thukpa, Thenthuk, Sha Bhakleb and Momos. They also have a varied variety of appetizers and soups to offer. Their Buff Soup Momo, Chilly Fish and Spicy Fried Pork are a must try. A meal for two costs approximately Rs 350.

Apart from the unique souvenirs that you can find here, Dilli Haat is immensely popular for the regional cuisines available. You can find food stalls from almost all the North Eastern states here serving delicacies cooked in the infamous Bhoot Jholakia, delicacies made from Raja Mirchi and Bamboo Shoot, traditional Luchi Mankho and Bhaji, Pork Delicacies, Fish Thali, Eromba Chutney and much more. A meal for two would only cost about Rs 600.

Yeti - The Himalayan Kitchen

This restaurant brings an elaborate feast from the Himalayas to our city. They have a variety of North Eastern, Tibetan and Nepalese dishes on the menu. They serve the much loved Wai Wai Sadeko which is prepared using Wai Wai Noodles, Aloo Sadeko, Bateko Channa and Khasi Ko Ledo that is a perfectly seasoned mutton curry. The place has a warm ambience with the interiors done up in wood. A meal for two approximately costs Rs 1,000.

This modest eatery is known for its authentic and delicious Naga cuisine. It has quite a no-fuss ambience with friendly servers, always eager to serve you. A small eatery that prides itself on serving only the most authentic North-Eastern food you've ever tasted, it's truly worth a drop by! The Nagaland Thali is a must try. A meal for two would only cost about Rs 300.

As soon as you enter this modest little restaurant you are transported to a distant world with lush greens all around! They've made tiny, scruffy bamboo shacks and placed the tables below them. A must try here include Pork Ribs that are served with Raja Mirchi Chutney. Other recommendations include Chicken with Bamboo Shoot with Dry Fish Chutney, Sliced Lamb in Chilly Oyster Sauce and Naga Thali. A meal for two costs around Rs 1,200.

Safdarjung Enclave

This small cafe brings Tibet to Delhi in a delightful package. The cafe is always brimming with expats, Tibetans and North Easterners. They have an open kitchen where the chef prepares Tibetan and North Eastern delicacies. The Honey Chilli Pork Ribs, Chicken Rice in Shrimp Sauce and Roasted Pork in Chilly Gravy are the most recommended items along with Shaptak and Thukpa. A meal for two costs approximately Rs 700.

The JNU campus, apart from its academic excellence is popular for serving delicious and affordable food in its canteens. The North East Dhaba has proved to be a boon for many North East students and foodies. The delicacies are cooked using Raja Mirchi, fresh Pork, Bamboo Shoot and Seafood. A meal for two approximately costs Rs 200.
