There's A Medicine Out There That May Prevent Ventilation Stage For COVID-19 Patients

This Is A Representative Image

The COVID-19 pandemic is a living nightmare for all of us, with cities under lockdown, people under quarantine, changing everyone's lives forever. However, there seems to be a ray of hope in the form of this medicine that we're here to tell you about.

A Ray Of Hope? | Low-dose steroid treatment Dexamethasone has till now been a breakthrough in the fight against this ghastly virus according to experts in the UK. It’s a part of the world’s biggest trial testing existing treatments and it apparently cuts the risk of death by a 3rd for patients on ventilators and by a 5th for those requiring oxygen. This could be a boon for poorer countries with a high number of COVID-19 patients.

Although 19 out of 20 patients recover without being admitted to the hospital and out of those too mostly everyone recovers, some need oxygen or mechanical ventilation. And so, this drug is used to help people in the latter category. However, it supposedly doesn’t help people with mild symptoms who do not require any help with breathing. The best bit is that this steroid is pretty cheap and is said to be readily available.

Let's hope, in a country where the virus seems to be on the rise, this medicine is the answer to saving lives.
