Delhi’s First Underground Tunnel Road | In a bid to reduce massive traffic jams in the city, PWD has decided to construct an infrastructure project that will help in decongesting the most over-crowded routes of the city. By the time this project is finished, Delhi will have a 1.2 km long tunnel and 6 underpasses that will make travelling to India Gate and parts of Central Delhi easy peasy.
The tunnel road, which shall be the first for Delhi, would go under Pragati Maidan and start near the National Sports Complex of India (NSCI) on Purana Qila Road and end on the Ring Road. PWD officials have said that the project is expected to be completed by September of this year.
The tunnel will be a signal-free route and people travelling from different parts of the city will have access to India Gate and Mathura Road via this tunnel. One of the focus areas of the project is to decongest the ITO intersection and other areas that’ll be decongested under this project are Mathura Road, Ring Road and Bhairon Marg.
Once this project is completed, Delhi peeps will be able to reach Central Delhi from different parts of the city in a jiffy and we just can’t wait to drive through this tunnel road!
