Built In 1862, Delhi's Oldest Library Is Getting A Makeover And Opening Soon!


Delhi has played a significant role in India’s History and has been the hub of all the major activities for ages. The prevailing culture and architecture is a proof of the same, out of which some of them are still in use till this day. One such structure is Hardayal Municipal Public Library AKA the oldest library in Delhi, and this may very soon open again with a new look. Here’s what we know about this!

Makeover Alert! | Saadi Dilli’s oldest library AKA Hardayal Municipal Public Library in Chandni Chowk is getting a makeover, and the newly revamped library may open in mid-March. Yep, the deadline for this renovation has been set for the first week of March. So, the library stands closed for the moment. This historically significant library was set up in the year 1862 when the library was a part of the Lawrence Institute.  

Did you know it has a collection of 1.7 lakh books, of which 8,000 are rare manuscripts? Yep, and after the renovation, you can expect to see a change in the interior design, but the outer facade will remain the same. We can’t wait for the new look of this age-old structure to unveil!
