Book Land, Kamla Nagar: A 45-Yr Old DU Haven, They Offer Upto 50-70% Discounts On Novels

In the busy streets of Kamla Nagar market, there stands an unobtrusive bookstore called Book Land and although it’s stature may be small but it has every book that you could possibly need and then some! Book Land has every book on DU’s recommended reading list and is therefore, a saviour for the DU folks. The store has been in business for some 45 years now and supplies more than just books - it’s a page out of DU’s history!

It’s located near the (now closed) McDonald’s of Kamla Nagar, which you can reach by shelling out Rs 10 from Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station and fulfill all your book needs. This quaint little bookstore might not scream for attention but definitely deserves it for its extensive collection, attractive discounts and warm owner! Fun fact: Book Land also has a publication house called WorldView which has published some 30 books, many of which were authorized as DU course syllabus books. Cool!

What’s In Store

The store is a one-stop shop for our academic needs and bibliophile greed and with the generous discounts by the owner, book shopping (read: hoarding) has never been more guilt-free! The store has every DU course book under its roof and if they don’t *gasp*, the owner Mr. Rastogi will order one just for you. Other than course books, he also stocks entrance test books, model test papers, academic texts and such for all courses.

Their collection is not limited to just academics, Book Land also has a lot of novels from the classics to the hot-off-the-press variants, to the crazy popular ones *cough* Fifty Shades *cough* to underrated gems like Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Plus, the owner offers great discounts on the novels with the minimum being 20% and ranging to 50-70%, if you’re lucky! Other than that, the only thing that one should keep in mind is that the store has a
strict ‘No Return Policy!’ so check the goods before you pay.

What We Loved

We’re in love with books and discounts and this bookstore serves both, so we have a major case of the heart eyes! Apart from the solid deals, the store also gives away some popular books by authors like Chetan Bhagat at dirt-cheap rates of Rs 40. The bookstore also accepts old books, depending on their condition and offers a decent deal for them.

The fact that we witnessed a middle-aged man sell books hailing from his own time in the university, and at a time when his own son has gotten admission in DU definitely highlights the historicity and legacy of Book Land. These are the things that make it more than just a store and turn it into a part of history, kicking-ass in the present!

The most interesting aspect of this place is that although it might be small and quiet, but this place has quite a rich history! It also packs quite a punch and houses (almost) every book you could require to get ahead in your course or for your daily metro ride entertainment. So, head to the Book Land for your next book fix!
