8 Enjoyable Bollywood Movies That Every 90s Kid Has Rewatched Countless Times

Who doesn’t remember singing along to the ‘ABCD song’ in Hum Sath Sath Hain, or how friendship bands became the rage after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai came out? Bollywood films back in the 90s were always packed with entertainment and memorable musical numbers, and even though we might have outgrown them, they’ll always hold a special place in our hearts and childhood. Which is why, no matter how many times we’ve already watched these movies, we’d still sit down and stay glued to the screen the next time they are played. So, here’s a list of the greatest Bollywood movies that defined our childhood and where you can watch them if you feel like revisiting those days!

1. Hum Sath Sath Hain

If you’re watching a Rajshri production with Alok Nath in it, it’s bound to give you the perfect dose of sanskari values and this movie is exactly that! (‘cause the family that prays together and eats together, stays together!) With two engagements, three weddings, one 25th anniversary celebration, one family honeymoon (um...okay), one family introduction song for the benefit of the new bahu (and the audience), this movie is just one colossal fiesta! If you’re having trouble deciding what to watch with the entire fam, this one’s the perfect family-pleaser!

2. Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Another Rajshri production and another happy family, complete with the entire wedding and functions shebang; that is until things turn a little slippery for the bhabhi. We can’t deny that this movie’s ‘chocolate-lime juice’ song made us undeniably crave something sweet or that this movie gave innumerable definitions to simple coughing - something our naive mind couldn’t wholly comprehend back then. It’s time for a rewatch guys, if only for the timeless beauty that Madhuri Dixit embodies!

3. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Here’s the movie that taught us ‘Pyaar dosti hai’. The jodi of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol has, over the years, become so iconic that they were also one of the main reasons that contributed to our obsession with this movie. Not to mention, its portrayal of the ideal college life that we all fervently dreamt about being a part of one day! Binge-watch this for another dose of ‘Rahul-Anjali ka jhagada’ moment and LOL along!

4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

DDLJ was the movie that defined ‘one true love’ for all of us 90s kids. This utterly adorable romance follows all the cliches; running through lush rolling fields, initial hate relationship of the leads which turns into undying love, dance sequences that boast of unreal backgrounds and a super strict Baauji who likes to feeds birds in Punjab as well as London (okay, maybe the last one isn’t so common), but our generation still adores this film! We know you have all the dialogues down pat and can’t resist enacting each scene as you watch, and neither can we! So to all the viewers dying for a rewatch right about now - Ja! Jee le apni zindagi!

5. Dil Toh Pagal Hai

This movie completely fired up our dancing streak, making us dance till we dropped (not very gracefully, we might add). This, Yash Raj, musical completely mesmerised us with the incredible dance sequence, super twisted love triangles (maybe a square?), and a ton-load of misunderstandings and angst. If you’re in the mood for some complicated love stories, scenic sets with foot-tapping music, give this one a rewatch!

6. Andaz Apna Apna

By far the most hilarious film to have graced us in the 90s (at least that’s what ‘we’ like to believe), this movie is a full-on roller coaster, jam-packed with double roles, twisted character switches, slapstick humour, a plot that leaves you completely baffled and a villain that will leave you in stitches rather than frighten you to death (Crime-Master Gogo, Mogambo ka Bhatija!). It’s time to give this one a rewatch for a ROFLing experience ‘cause as Teja would say, ‘Mark idhar hai’!

7. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar was made during a time when the world was devoid of Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’ (thank God!), and the idea of a school life portrayed in movies was still relatable. This is a coming-of-age drama about school students who grapple with school bullying, rivalry, first love and heartbreak, and student-parent relations, all culminating into an intriguing tale of friendship and family bond ending in an adrenaline-fueled cycle race as the climax! A definite gem in Aamir Khan’s career, you can never get bored of watching this timeless classic!

8. Hero No. 1

This one’s a Govinda masterpiece. Hero No. 1 is an entire entertainment package that just can’t stop giving us the giggles every time we watch it. The story follows two star-crossed lovers who want to get married but obviously, we then see the entrance of the super-strict dadaji who is dead-against their marriage due to a spat with the boy’s father (another baauji scenario). So Govinda decides to win over Karishma Kapoor’s family in the wackiest of ways - he pretends to be a servant in their house. This one’s the perfect rewatch for all those missing that typical Govinda comedy, so watch on!

There you have it, guys! Cheers to those good ‘ol days and happy bingeing!
