7 Things To Do While Visiting The Newly-Revamped Kartavya Path & Central Vista For The First Time

How long has it been since you last took a classic, ‘old-yet-gold’ picnic trip to the India Gate? If you had to really think about it, trust us, it’s really been ages! First, the pandemic put a damper on our plans to visit and then the construction hit the pathways of the forever iconic India Gate making our plans to head over for a midnight ice cream date truly impractical. But fret not Delhiites, both the all-new Central Vista and the newly-dubbed Kartavya Path are finally open for the public again. So, go on and hit the road to Central Vista for a fun-filled day!

1. Plan A Cute Picnic At India Gate Reminiscent Of Your Childhood Days

Believe it or not, all of us have had memorable picnics at India Gate while we were growing up. It is quite a common place to relax your weekends away with no heed to how crowded it can become as the sun sets. The autumn season is finally here, and all you need are a couple of card games, a book, a delicious home-cooked meal, and good company to have the time of your life as you take in the gorgeous views of the new area.

2. Boating In The Clean & Revamped Canals

Soon enough, the boating services at the canals of Central Vista will resume and this time two water canals will provide the boating activity for all of you looking forward to taking a round on the boat. There’s one on the lawn opposite India Gate and the other one is behind Krishi Bhawan. Boating in Delhi in itself is an experience that too with India Gate as a view will truly lead to an unforgettable day!

3. Ice Cream Sunda(y)es

‘I scream, you scream, we all scream, for ice cream!’ This is precisely our reaction when we spot the numerous ice cream vendors at India Gate. Honestly, chomping down on ice cream in the evening here just hits differently. It is a ritual to lick the melting ice cream off the ice cream cones that drip down our hands as we lazily take in the gorgeous greenery around us or play a game of scrabble while lying down on the picnic mat. This time around, the vendors will have seven designated zones, with two amenity blocks. So let the ice cream wars begin!

4. Back To Badminton

Start getting your workout in, or get your blood flowing after sitting for a prolonged period of time admiring the beauty of the newly-revamped space. The perfect activity to indulge in at Central Vista is badminton. There is ample space, and perhaps even the wind might be in your favour. You may even play doubles with nearby badminton people and might end up making a few friends at Central Vista. Sounds like a fun day out in our opinion.

5. A Walk Down From Rashtrapati Bhavan To India Gate Along The Kartavya Path.

After the revamp, you can’t miss out on gazing at the newly constructed Central Avenue. It starts from Man Singh Road to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate and is renamed - The Kartavya Path. During Republic Day, this stretch is the zone for all the ceremonial activities, hence the new name. It is the most accessible area, so munch on some snacks and stroll along Kartavya Path for a nice walk alongside pretty views.

6. See The Subhash Chandra Bose Statue Installed At Canopy

Installation of the long pending Subhash Chandra Bose statue is finally revealed at the canopy right behind the India Gate. Netaji’s statue saluting can be seen through the India Gate itself with perfect symmetry. It is even better when all the lights on the monument go up.

7. Ride Yulu Bikes

Central Delhi mainly has Yulu bike spots here and there that you can use to go from place to place without spending a whole lot on commuting. You can download their app and rent bikes to ride around the safe zones of Kartavya Path and maybe take in all the sights that you couldn’t on foot. It's a very refreshing activity, and if you don’t feel like walking, rent a Yulu bike and catch the revamped version at a quicker pace.

You have to go and check out the newly revamped Central Vista for yourselves. Remember to take lots of selfies and not trash the monument zone and keep it neat after your fruitful day. Happy Picnic-ing!
