PDA or Public Displays Of Affection according to Dill-Waalo-Ki-Dilli is a general source of entertainment, mocking and full-on judgement! All true Delhiites know which gardens and forts to avoid on family outings in order to ensure that they don't awkwardly run into couples getting busy under dupattas and helmets. However, with an ample number of love birds in the city, even the best of us run into newbie couples showing off their risque love for each other on the streets, in the parks and yes, even in the metro. No matter the act, every time we spot a couple exchanging some sweet nothings, we hear very predictable reactions. So go ahead and read the most commonly heard exclamations and don’t forget to let us know which reaction you’re guilty of!
1. “Gosh, Get A Room!”

You have someone special in your life, congratulations! You’re in love, the sky is bluer than ever, how wonderful! But for the love of Barney Stinson, please stop rubbing your PDA in our single faces and get a room already! Canoodling while standing in the metro, on the roadsides, in the public parks - these people start just about anywhere, anytime. And as much as we believe in expressing ourselves, it’ll be better if they can keep this love and their private expressive moments between themselves and confined to four walls, preferably window-less!
2. “We’re Modern, It’s All Cool…But Did They Just Kiss In Public?” (Wide Eyed)

Delhiwalas make big claims of being cool and modern but the minute they spot a young couple hugging or kissing, their modernity goes down the drain and their sanskari self emerges forth. They can’t control their unbelieving staring eyes from judging and going all tauba tauba when they see a couple in love and showing it off! #Hypocrites
3. “Lodhi Gardens, Central Park…Not Going There With The Fam!”
Lodhi Gardens, Garden Of 5 Senses, Central Park, Deer Park - you pick any place that used to be your favourite picnic spot and you’ll find it filled with couples doing all sorts of lovey-dovey stuff under the tree or behind a big rock or statue. Basically, these places aren’t for family get-togethers anymore and if you still plan to go there, beware - there’s gonna be a LOT of awkwardness and judging and you can forget about ever returning back here with your friends for another picnic again.
4. “What’s Wrong With These Kids? So Unsanskari” (Disapproving Looks)!

“What’s wrong with these young kids nowadays?”, “So unsanskari!”, “It’s all because of those stupid American shows & movies they see”, “Hamare zamane main toh..”, if you’ve ever even slightly indulged in any sort of PDA in Delhi, then you MUST have heard all these things. You’re bound to be privy to this jibber-jabber if you’ve come across old uncles or nosy aunties who have all the time in the world to poke their noses into everyone’s businesses!
5. “Even He Has A Girlfriend?!” (Major FOMO)

“Iski bhi girlfriend hai? Dude what’s wrong with me then?” - these are thoughts of every single guy out there who sees another man with a woman! The couple might just be simply hugging or strolling around, hand in hand, and all the single AF people would start judging them and contemplating why the hell they don’t have a special someone in their lives. The FOMO is clearly real, folks.
6. “PDA? What’s Wrong In That, They’re In Love!”

These are the good ol’ souls who still believe in the ‘live and let live’ policy. They know that people in love tend to forget their surroundings and just live in the moment, so yeah, let them be. They don’t preach, whisper or judge, they just smile and live their own lives, as should the rest of Delhi ki janta!
So, here are just some of the thoughts that pop up in Delhiwalas’ minds when they see people being all lovey-dovey. Did we miss something out? Let us know of your experiences or reactions when it comes to PDA in Delhi!
