5 Kinds Of Yummy Naans Like The Massive Butter Garlic Naan You All Gotta Hog On @ Kake Di Hatti

We meandered our way through the dingy lanes of Old Delhi only to land at the most historic of places, Kake Di Hatti, which is hardly a five minute walk away from the famous Old Delhi Railway Station. This eatery has been the daily haunt for a large number of loyalists since the past 70 odd years, serving huge naans day in and day out. We placed our bottoms down on the rickety stools to devour their finest creations. Interested in knowing what we ordered? Read on!

1. Paneer Naan

This dish might seem like nothing special from its name but you have to have to try out this bad boy to believe the amount of flavoured paneer they stuffed inside these naans. One can feel huge quantities of cottage cheese in every bite and we didn’t mind it for even one bit. Depending upon your appetite, you can always order the Kake size which would require your entire gang to finish it up!

2. Aloo Pyaaz Naan

Upon making enquiries from the owner of the place, we got to know that Aloo Pyaaz is a bigger hit when it comes to ordering naans than its paneer variant. The Aloo Pyaaz Naan here emanates a goodness that you can relate to the piping hot aloo pyaz parathas that our moms fed to us every weekend as a ritual. Although a little generic in nature and taste, it satisfied our hunger to no lengths!

3. Butter Garlic Naan

We had not given this most regular naan a thought until we saw an order for 20 butter garlic naans to go by a single person. We were left so shocked that we had to try this beauty straightaway and boy oh boy, this item was big and sumptuous enough to last us for days. The freshness of the garlic, the sheer size of the naan which needed to be cut into almost 8 pieces to fit in a thali and the river of butter dripping from it are testament enough that this is one item that you definitely need to order when here!

4. Dhuandhar Naan

Although, the servers at Kake will warn you against ordering this specific naan but this joint has got a trademark registered in their name for this variant and we just could not let it be. Turns out, the servers were right. The spice in this Dhuandhar Naan burns your entire tongue the moment you take a bite and making you regret the decision of ordering it instantly. All the spice lovers out there, finishing it would be a challenge even for you guys. Don’t believe us? Try it!

5. Mix Veg Naan

Another clear favourite of the huge crowd that throngs this place and we soon learnt why. The ustaad or the chef of this restaurant very expertly makes a huge roll of assorted vegetables and deftly embeds them into a dough ball big enough to be called a mini basketball. We thought of trying their Kake size naan and we sure are not disappointed. Every bite of this dish told us that the naan had been appropriately spiced with garam masala and its perfect golden brown crispiness is what we fell for. To all those reading this, make sure to hog on this and you’ll thank us later!

Kake Di Hatti, like all the legendary outlets here, operates out of a small kitchen and an even smaller dining area. However, the proof of its lip-smacking taste can only be enjoyed while seated on those small seats awaiting your humongous naans as you smell the clay oven doing its thing with the dough. We recommend you go around lunch time as there are more options along with curries and raitas!
