Marvel At The Glorious Architecture & Take Blessings At This 16th CE Church
One of the oldest churches in town, the Santhome Cathedral Basilica was erected by the Portuguese traders in the 16th century and repaired & reconstructed by the Britishers in 1893. It’s one of the prominent sightseeing spots in the city and we’ve got all the deets for you right here!
A Piece Of The Colonial Era | Built in the Neo-Gothic style in British architecture, it’s one of the only 3 churches in the world that’s been established over the tomb of one of Jesus’s apostles, who visited present-day Kerala in A.D. 52. If legends are to be believed, his mortal remains are buried at the site of the church. The image of the Virgin Mary, also known as “Our Lady Of Mylapore”, can also be found here!
During Christian festivals, especially Christmas, this church is an absolute delight for the eyes! Adorned with flowers and fairy lights, the spot looks stunning & is swarmed with passionate devotees.
