2. The Crown Bakery

The Crown Bakery in Mylapore has been in place since 1905. Their fluffy sponge cakes, Christmas cakes, and buns keep pulling their customers back for more. Years ago, an unconventional ritual was started in the bakery, in which people would bring their homemade batter to be baked in the bakery’s oven for a nominal fee and keeping that tradition alive to this very day, the Crown Bakery loyalists to this day, take home-made batter to the bakery for some delicious baked treats, so when are you heading there with for your share?

Adyar Bakery, formerly known as McRennet was started in 1903 and had only one branch, Gandhinagar Bakery. Four generations and two world wars later, the bakery is still standing tall. The name underwent a change to ‘Adyar Bakery’ because, in those vintage times, it was the only bakery catering to the whole of Adyar and not solely Gandhinagar. Their star attraction is the famous tea-bar cake, an English recipe, one of its kind sold only at Adyar. Its recipe is centuries old and yet unchanged to date. 5. Gopaul Dairy

This adorable little booth-cum-bakery is at least 73 years old. Set up in the 1950s, it catered to the very many British and Anglo-Indians that resided in large numbers in the town at that time. They became increasingly famous for their bun-butter-jam. Though they have also started selling a few more baked goods, their prime product remains the same. They have perfected the ratios of uthukuli butter and jam to make a heavenly bun too! Even today, they are sold out by 2 PM and all their products are under 50rs, so drop by and get your hands on those delish yummies before ASAP!
